Ambassadors Rallying Around the Lloyd Family

In 1995, Jami (Moore) Lloyd was in the inaugural class of the Ambassador Program.  After graduating in 1999 she worked in the Admissions Office as an Admissions Counselor/Ambassador Advisor for six years.  She went on to start a Professional Counseling career and married her husband Rusty.  Their lives were busy and full and they started having children, very much like the American Dream, although their adventures in parenthood took many unforeseen twists and turns.   At the age of 3 their second daughter, Gracie, was diagnosed with cancer.  She battled it and won, and today she is a spunky 13 year old.  In July of 2018 their youngest child, Carter (7 at that time), had a massive seizure while camping. He had to be sedated, intubated and then flown in the flight for life off the mountain to St. Mary’s.  At St. Mary’s they did a Ct scan which showed a mass in his brain and they flew him to Denver Children’s hospital where he was in the PICU. Luckily, the mass was NOT cancer. He has a cerebral cavernous malformation (CCM). This is basically a cluster of extra blood vessels about the size of a walnut in his brain, what happens is that these can sometimes bleed and cause a hemorrhage and stroke and that is what happened. Thankfully Carter was able to come off the breathing machine and he recovered very well considering he had over a 40 min seizure and stroke, he had no long term damage. The plan was to put him on seizure medication and watch him closely with regular MRI’s, he was given a neurologist and neurosurgeon team at Children’s that he followed up with regularly. Thankfully after leaving the hospital he did great with no problems. This last November Carter again had a massive seizure and stroke, he was again intubated and flown to Children’s and admitted to the PICU. Thankfully he came out of this incident with no long term brain damage, but he did have to undergo a brain surgery right before Christmas.  The surgery was successful and he was a warrior, bouncing back and getting back to his young adolescent self.  Through it all the Lloyd family remained positive and continued to give back to the local community in every way that they could, but we know it hasn’t been easy.  So as a way to show the power and support of the extended Ambassador Family we’re getting behind Rusty, Jami, Elly, Gracie and Carter, and we will celebrate their unwavering spirit at this year’s reunion.
